Weekly Golf Report

The cooler mornings have certainly arrived across the valley, but that hasn’t slowed the scoring at Macksville Country Club, with another busy period of golf producing some excellent results across both weekend and midweek competitions. Congratulations to our recent major winners, including Darren Pike, who claimed the Monthly Medal, and Mick Manning, who secured the Spoon. Ali Cunneen continued her impressive form with victory in their own sponsored Stableford Event, while Adam Ross, John Fortescue and Tim Ditton were among the midweek winners keeping the regular names prominent on the leaderboards. It has also been pleasing to see a mix of familiar faces and newer names featuring in the ball rundown, highlighting the depth of competition currently being enjoyed across the club.

A sincere thank you must also go to our sponsors over the past few weeks, including Steve Ash, Jeff Gore, Steve Hosking and Michael Simpson, whose ongoing support helps make our competitions possible. We also acknowledge the many volunteers who continue to contribute their time around the course and clubhouse. Whether it is course maintenance, competition administration, ball picking, working bees or helping behind the scenes (Carpark Potholes), your efforts are greatly appreciated and play a vital role in the success of golf at Macksville Country Club.

This Weekend – Macksville Country Club Foursomes Championship

This weekend sees the running of the Club Foursomes Championship, one of the most unique and challenging events on the golfing calendar. Unlike normal competitions, foursomes requires partners to play a single ball alternately throughout the round, placing a premium on teamwork, strategy and consistency.

Competition Format

  • One round of 27 holes.
  • Two players compete as partners using one ball only.
  • Playing order is determined before the round commences.
  • One player tees off on all odd-numbered holes, while the other tees off on all even-numbered holes.
  • Partners then continue to play alternate shots until the ball is holed.
  • Penalty strokes do not affect the order of play.
  • The Net Result is calculated by deducting half of the combined handicap from the team’s gross score.

Foursomes is often regarded as one of golf’s purest team formats and can test even the strongest partnerships. Communication, patience and trust become just as important as shot-making ability. We wish all competitors the best of luck and look forward to seeing who can combine effectively over the 27 holes to claim this year’s championship honours.

Volunteers Needed

The Golf Committee is seeking assistance from members who can volunteer a small amount of their time to help around the course and support the ongoing presentation of our facilities.

There are a number of tasks where additional help would make a significant difference, including ball collection on the driving range, rough maintenance, course clean-up, gardening, minor repairs, and general course presentation. No special skills are required, and members can contribute as much or as little time as they are able.

As with many community sporting clubs, much of what we enjoy today has been built by volunteers. Whether it’s an hour occasionally or more regular involvement, every contribution helps reduce the workload on staff and ensures the course continues to be presented to a high standard for members and visitors alike.

If you would like to lend a hand or simply learn more about how you can assist, please speak with a member of the Golf Committee or contact the Club. Your support would be greatly appreciated.
