Macksville Country Club GOLF Newsletter WE Saturday 02/05/2026
Another great stretch of golf at Macksville Country Club, with strong fields across both weekend and midweek competitions and plenty happening around the Club. It’s been good to see a mix of familiar names continuing their solid form while some new faces are featuring on the leaderboards and in the ball rundowns. Congratulations to our Medal winner D. Pike and Spoon winner M. Manning from Saturday’s Stroke event—well played to both. There’s been plenty of highlights across the board, including competitive midweek fields, Chook Run action, and ongoing course improvements and feedback shaping the future of the layout. A big thank you as always to our sponsors for their continued support—your contribution plays a huge role in keeping golf at Macksville thriving.
Looking ahead, the Golf Committee AGM (date to be confirmed) is an important opportunity for members to engage in the future direction of golf at the Club. With several committee members stepping down, we are actively seeking new volunteers to assist with running competitions, events, and general golf operations. If you’re passionate about the Club and keen to contribute, we strongly encourage you to consider nominating or reaching out to learn more about what’s involved.
Sponsorship Opportunities 2026/27
Macksville Country Club is proud to offer a range of sponsorship opportunities for local businesses and supporters looking to align with a strong, community-focused sporting club. Our sponsors play a vital role in supporting competitions, events, junior development, and the ongoing improvement of our facilities. In return, sponsors enjoy excellent exposure to our members and visitors through regular competitions, signage, newsletters, and club communications. Whether you’re a small local business or a larger organisation, we welcome the chance to work together and build lasting partnerships that benefit both the Club and the wider community. If you’re interested in becoming involved, please contact the Club or a committee member to discuss available options.
Some Points to keep in mind while playing.
- Carts – While it is great that we have Cart availability at the course (Club, stored and people living in proximity), this means that the course is experiencing high traffic. Common sense is asked for, and, where possible, carts could remain 10m from the green. Example Carts to be kept to the right side of the 3rd and 12th green. Where possible, keep to the second cut around greens. No one should be parking directly next to any green.
- Keep up with the group in front
- Be ready to play – limit practice swings and move efficiently
- Be aware of the groups around you – If you have a group that is waiting on every shot behind you for extended periods of time, it might be worth letting them through at an appropriate time on the course.
- Play ready golf – hit when safe and ready
- Be quiet and still when others are hitting
- Look after the course
- Repair pitch marks
- Replace or fill divots
- Rake our bunker
- On the green
- Don’t walk in putting lines
- Keep bags and carts off
- Stay safe
- Don’t hit into players ahead
- Call “FORE!” if needed
- If you fall behind
- Let faster groups through
🏌️ Golden Rule: Be ready, keep up, and respect the course and other players.

📣 Golf Committee AGM – Expressions of Interest
The Macksville Country Club Golf Committee AGM will be held on Saturday, 9th May at 9am with a 10am Shotgun start, and we encourage any members interested in the future of golf at our Club to consider joining the committee.
The committee plays an important role in ensuring competitions run smoothly, events are well organised, sponsors are supported, and the overall golf experience continues to improve for members and visitors alike. With some members recently stepping down from their positions, we are now seeking new people who are willing to lend a hand and contribute fresh ideas.
There are many ways to assist, and duties can be shared. Areas where help is currently needed include:
- Securing and liaising with weekly competition sponsors
- Preparing and managing the annual fixture list
- Seeking new sponsorship opportunities
- Competition administration and finishing fields
- Assisting with newsletters and member communication
- Running knockout competitions
- Helping organise and manage Open Days and major events
- Liaising with course staff regarding event preparation, mowing schedules, renovations and course presentation
- General support with promoting participation and growing golf numbers at the Club
You do not need to do everything—many hands make light work. If you are passionate about golf at Macksville Country Club and would like to help shape its future, please consider nominating when AGM details are announced. New faces, new ideas, and shared effort are always welcome. Give Matt a tap on the shoulder this week or send an email to flag your interest.
Course Feedback & Proposed Layout Update
Thank you to the members who recently provided feedback on the course. While responses were limited, the feedback was practical and highlighted several key areas for improvement, as well as a broader proposal for future course/land development.
Member Feedback Summary
🔹 Safety & Awareness
- Suggestions to install clear signage on holes where play overlaps or runs close together
- Focus on improving awareness between neighbouring tees to reduce risk
🔹 Course Care
- Recommendation to relocate sand buckets and refill stations on the 1st tee to a more visible position
- Add signage encouraging players to repair divots and maintain course quality
🔹 Access & Traffic
- Concerns raised about access between nearby residences and the course/club, including:
- Blocked access due to parked vehicles and trailers
- Poor conditions in wet weather
- Limited lighting
- Suggested improvements include:
- No parking signage to keep access clear
- A gravel path to improve safe entry and exit
🔹 Course Condition
- Positive feedback that the course is currently looking great
A Proposed Course Layout (Overview)
A revised 18-hole layout (Par 70) has been submitted for consideration.
Front Nine – Par 35
- Mix of existing holes and reconfigured tee positions
- Includes additional Par 3s and use of older tee areas
- Some minor works proposed (e.g. selective tree removal)
Back Nine – Par 35
- A combination of current holes and adjusted playing directions
- Reuse of existing infrastructure,
- Total: Par 70
Purpose of the Proposed Changes
The layout proposal is aimed at:
- Improving player safety by reducing crossing fairways and shared landing zones
- Enhancing the pace of play through better hole flow
- Maximising existing infrastructure to limit costs
- Improving presentation and first impressions for members and visitors
Summary
The feedback and proposal together highlight two clear opportunities:
Short-term improvements
- Signage for safety
- Improved access and traffic flow
- Encouraging better course care
Long-term consideration
- Potential course layout changes to improve safety, flow, and sustainability.
Continued growth in participation will begin asking questions about the viability of a 9-hole layout.
Further updates will be provided as feedback is reviewed and options are considered. Members will have the opportunity to provide input before any major changes are made.
